Special Session on
Compressive Sensing and Single Pixel Imaging in Biomedical Applications
 - CS-SPI 2021

11 - 13 February, 2021 - Vienna, Austria

Within the 14th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies - BIOSTEC 2021

Pedro G. Vaz
LIBPhys-UC, Department of Physics, University of Coimbra

Brief Bio
Pedro G. Vaz has obtained its PhD degree on December 2016 in a public defense with an international jury as part of my co-tutelage agreement between the University of Coimbra (UC) and University of Angers (UA). He has worked as an Invited Assistant Professor at the faculty of science and technology of the University of Coimbra where he lectured 5 different courses to 7 different degrees. Moreover, he was also an invited assistant at the Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC). During his research carrier, P. Vaz has published, as author or co-author, 8 papers international journals (4 in journals Q1 SJR) and 8 proceeding papers in indexed international conferences with a total of 65 citations (SCOPUS). Moreover, he participated as invited speaker in 2 international conferences. Since 2013, he has supervised 7 master students, all of them working on the biomedical engineering field. Finally, he is a scientific reviewer for 11 international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, and he was a member of the program committee of 4 international conferences, including the IEEE MECBME 2018.

Compressive sensing is a fairly recent mathematical tool that allow for the simultaneous acquisition and compression of biomedical signals. This methodology is the basis of an imaging technique called single pixel imaging that can be used in biomedical applications for hyper-spectral imaging, imaging through scattering media, fluorescence microscopy, physical encryption and others. This special session promotes the latest developments in compressive sensing and its biomedical applications including algorithm development, simulation, implementation, experimental application and clinical application.
