Scope and topics
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is a relatively young area of research that is currently in the focus of different research communities. The increase in life expectance and the simultaneous growth in the number of age related diseases call for a close collaboration of all stakeholders involved in the care process for the elderly. The term Ambient Assisted Living was created in Germany and subsequently used for the Joint Programme for Ambient Assisted Living at the EU level. Outside Europe this term is not used. In the US research in the area of "Personal Health" is somewhat related. The currently still early stage of development allows for an avoidance of negative trends that are observable in related areas, e.g. the area of health care: namely the fragmentation of software solutions. Free/Libre Open Source software (FLOSS) and the use of open standards is one strategy to support the development of interoperable systems in AAL.

After the very successful First International Workshop on Open Source in European Health Care: The Time is Ripe - OSEHC 2009 this second edition of the workshop calls especially for proposals out of the area of AAL. But as the subtitle "Crossing the borders" suggests, we are interested in FLOSS applications out of all areas of health care and related fields like biomedicine and would like to stimulate the exchange of knowledge, experience and hopefully software modules between different fields of research and different applications. Furthermore we welcome contributions and ideas that focus on collaboration between projects and application in the area described above.

= Call for Demonstrations =
The Open Source in European Health Care Workshop (OSEHC) is calling for submissions of demonstrations and use cases of open source software in health care, biomedical informatics and Ambient Assisted Living.
Interested parties should submit a brief description of their proposed demonstration via email to the workshop chair. Proposals should be 1 page in length at maximum, include a title, description of system to be demonstrated, main results, novelty and significance of the work, any related publications, estimated space requirements for the demonstration and whether internet access is needed. Please include the name, address, email address, phone and fax numbers for all co-authors on the submitted work.
Software may be presented live or via a poster explaining the software and the background. Additionally you may submit a use case where an open source system or algorithm might be useful to resolve an existing problem in health care. The demonstrations will take place in parallel with the poster sessions at the BIOSTEC 2010 conference.
