CO-CHAIRS

Jens Allmer
Izmir Institute of Technology
Turkey

Brief Bio
Jens Allmer started his studies to obtain his doctoral degree at the Schiller University in Jena, Germany. He then continued his research at the University of Pennsylvania, PA, USA. After another transfer, to Münster, Germany, he graduated from the Westfaelische Wilhelms University in Münster in 2006. During his doctoral studies he secured 2 patents and produced several programs supporting the patented algorithms. Allmer taught computer engineering classes at the Izmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi in 2007 and 2008 as an instructor, following a post doctoral study at the Westfaelische Wilhelms University in Münster, Germany. He started working as an assistant professor at the Izmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü in 2008. Jens Allmer is author or coauthor of more than 30 papers published in indexed journals which so far received more than 1000 citations. He also published numerous abstracts, posters, or papers in international conferences. He also authored several unpublished lecture notes and software manuals. He was named successful young investigator by the Turkish Academy of Sciences and he organized and co-organized a number of international conferences and workshops. Allmer is principal investigator for more than four ongoing grants from different sources and has successfully finalized more than 10 of previously granted projects. Jens Allmer is researching Transcriptomics, Proteomics, and Proteogenomics.
Malik Yousef

Israel

Brief Bio
Malik Yousef is a senior member of Tzfat academic college in Israel. Malik Yousef recieved his PhD in Computer science from the University of Haifa. His postdoctoral was at the Wistar Institute in Philidalphia at the USA. He served as a dean of graduate study at the Colleg of Sakhnin. His main research interests are in computation methods applied on biomedical data. He have published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles with over 2000 citations for them (based on Google scholar). H have successfully applied for 8 research grants (5 as PI) and He have edited 1 scientific volume Series: Methods in Molecular Biology, Humana Press, USA (Part of the Springer publishing group which has been successful with more than 50,000 downloads since its publication in 2014). He have one book published by Publisher: VDM Verlag, Germany, He have also contributed 2 chapters in books on MicroRNA Biology and Computational Analysis and Systems and Computational Biology. He is a co-inventor on 2 patents.

SCOPE

MicroRNAs regulate protein abundance on the post-transcriptional level. For experimental discovery they need to be co-expressed with their target mRNA and their effect needs to be measured on the protein level. These complications, led to a rise in interest in computational prediction of miRNAs. Computational miRNomics covers all areas ranging from pri- and pre-miRNA detection to the prediction of protein abundance and regulatory networks as well as their intersection with gene regulatory ones. The workshop aims to assemble experts in the field to establish a snapshot of the current state-of-the-art in computational miRNomics.
