Brief Bio
Gert-Jan de Vries received his PhD and MSc degrees in Computing Science from Groningen University, the Netherlands. He is currently affiliated with Philips Research, working as a senior scientist on topics ranging from Clinical Decision Support systems to data analysis of Electronic Medical Record data. He combines domain knowledge with computing science techniques, in order to create algorithms for automated feature extraction and interpretation of multi-source signals, including statistical analyses, machine learning and modeling. Aim of his work is to design and apply intelligent algorithms in real world applications to ultimately optimize medical care and improve people’s health and wellbeing. In 2012 he co-organized a special session on biofeedback systems for stress reduction within the BIOSTEC conference and was program committee member of two ACM International Health Informatics Symposia.

SCOPE
In order to reduce undesirable variation in care, care is provided in a protocolized way. These protocols and guidelines can be implemented through hospital-specific clinical pathways and form a primary source of clinical processes for specific diseases and conditions, both in acute and chronic care. The wish to further optimize various outcomes drives the request for means to analyze clinical processes using computational models. The goal of this special session is to outline advances in automated analysis of processes in a clinical context, ranging from specific clinical domains to public health and from technical advances in process mining to applications on retrospectively or prospectively acquired health data.
TOPICS
Analysis of clinical processes requires a variety of disciplines, such as computer science, artificial intelligence, and medicine. We hope to attract a multidisciplinary group of algorithm developers, data analysts, process miners, human-computer interaction, health IT specialists and medical practitioners to exchange and discuss ideas, algorithms, applications and unmet needs.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Process mining
- Clinical data analysis
- Process modeling
- Process model analysis
- Coping with incomplete or imprecise data
- Data architectures supporting process mining
- Interaction concepts to support process-based care delivery
- Applications of methods from any of the above topics

PUBLICATIONS
After thorough reviewing by the special session program committee complemented by members of the main conference program committee, all accepted papers will be published in a special section of the conference proceedings book - under an ISBN reference and on CD-ROM support - and submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI/ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index) and Scopus.
SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/) and every paper is given a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).
